HOW DO I GET MY MAG DRILLS TO LAST LONGER?

If the “monkeys” are always ruining your mag drills, you need better “monkey-proofed” machines!

We were recently explaining the benefits of Reisen’s mag drills to a local customer when they cut us short and, in a disappointed tone, said “Yes, I can see that they’re a better machine but I’m still going to have the same monkeys abusing them!”. His point was that he considers the life expectancy of his drills to be down to his staff, not the machines themselves, so he sees no benefit in buying better quality drills. But is he right?

The background: the customer believed he should buy cheap machines because ‘the monkeys’ abuse them, but his employees likely face high demands and tight deadlines, causing them to use tools in ways that violate warranty terms. No doubt this is a situation that sounds very familiar to many readers, as commercial pressures almost always require jobs to be done quickly and properly but also at the lowest costs.

Let’s just turn that around and look at the problem from the operators’ perspective. For the sake of making it more relatable, let’s give the operator a name and a background – maybe a young chap called Steve, with a couple of years on the job, wanting to make a career out of it and get a better life for his new family. But the daily reality is a never-ending series of more-or-less unpleasant tasks that need to be done ASAP and a boss that won’t listen to your complaints about the tools you have to work with. Steve, being young and keen, by sheer determination gets the jobs finished on time, but the cost is carried by the tools, used outside of their design & warranty parameters. Poor Steve expects the boss to be impressed by his efforts but all he gets as thanks is a refusal to buy better tools because he’s “already ruined the ones he had”.

If Steve was the type of person to deliberately abuse tools, he probably wouldn’t have been employed, but that’s not to say the machines always get treated with due respect. Whilst it’s fair to say that undue pressures and constraints are a factor, it’s also necessary to recognize that Steve and his colleagues are unlikely to be doing much to proactively mitigate the problem. But if problematic behaviour arises from inadequate tools and pressures, then improving equipment can lead to better outcomes. By providing operators with quality machinery that can withstand rigorous tasks, companies can foster a more productive environment.

Reisen DMMAG38: Reisen’s 38mm entry-level model is, as you’d expect, a simple little machine that doesn’t have any of the extra features of its bigger cousins (swivelling bases, tapping capabilities, etc.) but that doesn’t mean it cuts corners on the basics. It still has the same high-quality cast body, the same patented twin-rail slide system for significantly improved durability & lasting accuracy, and plenty of magnetic adhesion & motor power to meet the workplace demands. Reisen’s product philosophy is not based on lowest cost, so their base model is not made to undercut every other manufacturer’s entry-level machine, it’s made to outlast and outperform drills from higher up many competitors' ranges, which it does with ease.

And that’s why we stand by the https://www.wolfmach.com/machinery/mag-base-drills, their inherent build quality and superior design makes them New Zealand’s most monkey-proofed machines.
